Month-by-Month Guide
January
January is Jeju's coldest month, though "cold" here is relative—you're looking at highs around 7°C and lows near 3°C. It's actually a decent time for hiking if you don't mind the chill, and the tourist crowds thin out considerably. You'll want proper layers, especially if you're heading up Hallasan where it can be significantly colder and occasionally snowy.
February
February stays cool with temperatures hovering between 3-8°C, and you'll still see relatively few international visitors. The island starts preparing for spring, though it's not quite there yet. Worth noting that this is when you might catch early camellia blooms in some gardens, which can be surprisingly beautiful against the winter landscape.
March
Spring arrives gradually in March, with temperatures climbing to a more comfortable 12°C during the day. The famous canola flowers start blooming toward the end of the month, painting fields bright yellow. It's still jacket weather, especially in the evenings when temperatures can drop to around 6°C, but you'll notice the island coming back to life.
April
April is genuinely lovely on Jeju, with highs around 17°C and the canola fields in full bloom alongside cherry blossoms. The weather tends to be mild and pleasant for outdoor activities, though you'll want layers since mornings can still be cool at 10°C. Rainfall picks up a bit compared to winter, but it's nothing compared to what's coming in summer.
May
May brings properly warm weather with temperatures reaching 21°C, making it one of the best months for hiking and exploring. The humidity is still relatively manageable compared to summer, and the island is lush and green. Domestic tourism picks up significantly, especially around Korean holidays, so popular spots can get crowded on weekends.
June
June marks the beginning of the monsoon season, and you'll feel the humidity ramp up noticeably. Temperatures hover around 24°C, which would be pleasant except for the sticky air and increased rainfall (around 180mm). That said, the rain tends to come in bursts rather than all-day affairs, so you can still enjoy the island between showers.
July
July is peak summer with temperatures around 28°C and the kind of humidity that's impossible to ignore. This is prime beach season despite the monsoon, and Korean families flock to the coast. You'll get frequent rain showers—expect around 260mm for the month—but the ocean is finally warm enough for comfortable swimming.
August
August is the warmest month at 29°C and maintains that sticky summer humidity. It's also typhoon season, so there's a chance your plans might get disrupted by tropical storms, though they don't always make direct hits. The beaches are packed with vacationers, and accommodation prices reflect the peak season demand.
September
September sees the tail end of the monsoon season with still-significant rainfall (around 200mm), but temperatures start becoming more bearable at 26°C. The crowds thin out after Korean summer holidays end, making it a surprisingly good time to visit if you don't mind the occasional downpour. The ocean is still warm from summer heating.
October
October is genuinely one of the best months on Jeju, with comfortable temperatures around 21°C and much drier conditions. The autumn colors start appearing, particularly on Hallasan's slopes, and the post-monsoon air feels crisp and clear. It's popular with hikers and photographers, so expect some company on the trails, but it's manageable.
November
November brings cooler weather with highs around 16°C, and you'll definitely need layers now. The fall colors peak early in the month before leaves start dropping. It's a nice time for coastal walks and cultural sites, though the ocean is getting too cold for most people to swim. Tourist numbers drop off as winter approaches.
December
December ushers in winter with temperatures dropping to 11°C during the day and 5°C at night. The island takes on a quieter, more contemplative character, and you'll find good deals on accommodation. It's too cold for beach activities, but the hiking is still decent if you're properly dressed, and the winter light can be beautiful for photography.
